The boys had a blast at their very first Pinewood Derby competition last Thursday. Chandler won 1st place and Cade came in fourth. Not too shabby for their first race!

Our ward didn't give out "place" awards. Derek thoroughly kicked the butt of every single boy there... nobody could beat him and he finished the night undefeated... but then everybody got an indistinct participation trophy. The scout leader says "Everyone is a winner!" and Derek leaned over and said "NO, actually only ME!" Hahaha!
Participation trophy? Please! How does that prepare children for real life? If they don't have motivation to excel, they're just going to go through life making mediocre derby cars because it doesn't matter who made theirs the best, everybody wins. Pfft!

ReplyDeleteJaxon had his first pinewood derby a few months ago. I can't tell you how it went because Dallen puked all over the gym, hallway, and foyer...I had to take him home! Jaxon had a blast though!!
